Time machine is the Apple’s backup utility which is included with Mac OS X. it automatically backup Mac system. Software work with Time capsule and other external USB hard drive as well. You can restore lost data from the backup created by Time machine in future. Nowadays with the upgrade of Snow leopard, no. of users are now facing problem time machine backup on snow leopard. Whenever they try to make backup with snow leopard they got with an error ““The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk.” Error 109.

Snow leopard error 109 implies that backup will not be created because disk image could not be accessed. This issue happens with people who are backing up via network and mainly when using an Airport Extreme Base Station with an attached hard drive for their backup. This backing up problem is with the people who have upgrade to SL but who is still with 10.5 are still perfectly backing up with Time machine.

1. When you are backing up to Airport Extreme Base Station you get error, by repairing corruption in the sparsebundle image file you will be able to create backup again. AEBS is not the official destination of Time machine. It deals with the issue how the device handles external drives v/s robust handling of the internal drives in Time Capsule devices. If sparsebundle get corrupted it creates trouble while accessing which result with error. AEBS is not supported as Time Machine solution that's why Apple released the Time capsule. Since both are the same devices and work similarly under leopard. For the people approaches to work with AEBS again can do—


• Rename you Airport station, computer and Time machine drive to simple and short name. You should not use punctuation, special characters or spaces in the name.


• Create a new network location and add network interface you want to use to connect to the Time machine.


2. Some of the snow leopard users have the same problem of Time machine backup snow leopard with Time Capsule. If you are also facing the same problem Time capsule then try the above written solution. It may work.


3. Another solution is-. Open Airport utility then from keyboard hold down the “option” key and from menu bar choose “BaseStation->Upload Firmware…”. Now you can are able to downgrade your Time Capsule/ Airport extreme firmware to the previous firmware version. You know 7.4.1 firmware works flawlessly with snow leopard time machine.


4. Another complaint is that, previous backup vanished. However it is not vanished at all. In Snow leopard there is a quirk, by simply just rebooting and launching Time machine once again. This fixes the problem.

However a true fix is yet to be come from Apple for snow leopard.
